There was a mood for change in the Hitchers camp when we went in to record Blame It On His Hormones in early September 1990. A desire to change the way songs became Hitchers songs meant that we now wrote 'on the fly' as it were rather than me or anyone else bringing up completed new songs done and dusted. Consequently as we jammed things, the riffs became stronger and we got tighter. I think Eoin also felt a lot happier singing his own lyrics and a mighty set of lyrics they are too.
Blame It On His Hormones started out life as a bass riff Hoss came up with (You'll see in the Hot Press review below that there's maybe  a nudging wink  that it bears something of a resemblance to Buzzcocks 'Why Can't I Touch It?')
We spent a good bit of time on recording and mixing it but, if I'm being truthful, we just didn't give this cake time to rise. Written in August, recorded in September and released in October is, in retrospect, bloody madness. If the song had been written six months earlier we'd have had time to make a real cracker out of it -but as the other two reviews below point out -the chorus is a weak spot and we never resolved it ultimately. It's a pity as it had a great groove and was lots of fun to play.
It might just have taken the blame for the demise of that early line up.

Pearse and Miko had a go at coming with some new hooks for it. Here's a portion of it -hope they don't mind. Blame It On His Hormones feat: Pearse and Miko

This one may take a while to open but it's got quite a lot of info so we left it all in. Note the review of The Soupdragons vile madchester effort "Lovegod" at the bottom.
