It seems nobody explained to The Hitchers that splitting up generally
means
you don't play together any more. The boys have agreed to do a re-run of last
Christmas' show at Dolans Warehouse, Limerick. This years show takes place
On Sunday 29th December. Tickets are
€12 and include a FREE CD!!!
Support on the night comes from Nialls new band The Pennywhores and of
course there'll be an post-gig party with special guest DJs.
At least they're not saying this is definitely the last one any more.
No -this one is happening simply because it can. All the boys are going to
be in town so after all the fun and frolics of last years show it took about
five seconds flat to convince them to give it another go. "We intend doing a
good comprehensive show", said Niall, "and I think we’re also going give a bit
more space to the very early tunes this year and with that in mind we’ve
decided to re-record ‘All This Everything’ which we initially recorded back in
July 1989 for our very first release"
8.9.02 High Praise
from Dave Gedge
Dave Gedge described 'Strachan' by The Hitchers as "...One of the
greatest songs I ever heard..." at Cineramas
Limerick show at Dolans Warehouse on Saturday 7th before dedicating 'Cat Girl
Tights' to Niall who'd earlier
included 'Nobody's Twisting Your Arm' by The Wedding Present in his support
slot.
26.7.02 The Peel Session
It's five years since The Hitchers went into
Londons Maida Vale studios and recorded their Session for
the John Peel show. To celebrate here's two of the four tracks from that
session. The lads recorded four
tracks 'Human Skull', 'The Urge To Kill', 'Wannabee' and 'My Band'. These MP3s
are made from a cleaned
up cassette so they may be a little noisy at times. Though that doesn't stop
Niall describing them as
"unchallengably the best recording The Hitchers ever put down"

just about all of them. More pics and
commentary will be added real soon. We intend to list every single Hitchers show
on this page -from the first
one in The Oasis Club on Jan 20th 1989 to the last one in Dolans Warehouse on
Dec 30th 2001.
7.06.02 Ex-Hitchers join
in Tribute to John Cotter
Niall, Eoin and Benny joined a whole bunch of
Limerick musicians in paying tribute to the late John Cotter
at the Savoys Top Floor on Friday June 7th. John was a well known face on the
Limerick music scene for
two decades and his sudden passing last December stunned and saddened many. His
immense popularity was
borne out by a hugely supported show which also included performances by Joe
Browne, Sutras, members of
Toucandance and many others. The three Ex-Hitchers gave hearty rendidions of
'There's a Bomb in That Basket of Fruit', 'Which Leg of a Chicken is More
Tender' and
'You Can Only Love Someone So Much But You Can Hate Them All The Way To Hell'.

day Niall Quinn takes his Pennywhores -Eric, Niallo and Pissboy into the studio
to record their 1st single which
is released on July 15th on 4-3-3 Records. The A-side is a toss up between
Roadie-ing for Wolfsbane and
Fattened Calf Meet Sharpened Axe -with Roadie ahead by a nose. Check out the
free demo of Roadie on MP3
at The Pennywhores site while you still can (See Links).

Perhaps most appropriately in this
World Cup year by Niall -who scores a late winner against 'the old foe' England
using her head as a football. Enjoy.

character/love interest who gets
despatched to the next life in many exciting ways in this rock'n'roll gorefest
is played by a cheap imitation
Malibu Stacey -plucked from the obscurity of a Limerick £Pound shop and given
her 3 minutes
33 seconds of fame. Enjoy.

25.02.02 Bob Geldof Plays 'You
Can Only Love Someone So Much...' at Limerick Show.
On Sunday 24th Feb Bob Geldof and his
6-piece band played to a packed Dolans Warehouse in Limerick and payed
tribute to The Hitchers -and also their old Murgatroid labelmates The Shanks
-before launching into a rendition of
'You Can Only Love Someone So Much But You Can Hate Them All The Way To Hell'.
Niall, who saw the gig and had
earlier in the evening played support eloquently described the moment"...Fuckin'
stunned. Very flattered and
very fuckin' stunned."
10.02.02 Niall -Live in Dolans
Warehouse, Limerick. Thurs 28th Feb.
Niall will be doing a solo show at Dolans in
Limerick on Thursday 28th February. This will be his first gig of
the year and he'll be using the opportunity to showcase some new material as
well as giving some oldies
but goldies a few laps of the park. "Yeah there's going to be some new tunes in
there. There's one that I'm pretty
excited about called 'Fattened Calf Meet Sharpened Axe' and another called
'Murder He Did'. I just have to get on
with learning the words."

A Tribute to the late, great Joey Ramone 15.4.02.
Niall has floated the idea of a tribute gig in honour of Ramones frontman Joey
Ramone -who died on April 15th last
year at the age of 49 from cancer. All proceeds will be donated to a cancer
charity -exactly which one is as yet
unknown. We hope to find out if Joey himself nominated any. The idea was
initially discussed shortly after Joeys
death by Niall, Frank from Barberskum, Terry McColl and Con from Bandog. The
original plan was to have something
ready in time for Joeys 50th Birthday which fell in May, but the time window
was always too small. So the gig will
now take place on Monday 15th April -Joeys 1st Anniversary, at Dolans Warehouse,
Limerick. It's hoped to have as
many local bands as possible playing on the night. The running order -randomly
picked on the night will see each
band play one of their own followed by three Ramones songs. Acts confirmed
include Niall Quinn and The Pennywhores
who'll be doing 'Rockaway Beach', 'Glad to See You' and 'Pet Cemetery'.
Barberskum who'll be doing
'Blitzkrieg Bop', 'Sheena is a PunkRocker' and 'I Wanna Be Sedated' and
Caherdavin metallers Discord who'll be
doing 'We Want the Airwaves', 'Somebody Put Something in My Drink' and 'The KKK
Took My Baby Away'.
